CITY SNAPSHOT

Fourteen Cities (Athens, Copenhagen, Florence, Freiburg, Gabrovo, Guimaraes, Lisbon, London, Milan, Paris, Rotterdam, Sofia, Stuttgart and Valencia)  in ten Countries (BG, DE, DK, EL, ES, FR, IT, NL, PT, UK) have been explored on what has been defined the “urbanscapes”, notably a flexible combination of five crucial elements (Institutional Capacity, Cultural Vibe, Environmental Awareness, Social Activism and Entrepreneurial Culture) that according to the project’s view, help co-determine and shape the conditions (economic, infrastructural, political, cultural and societal) for a city environment to be more or less favourable for DEI to flourish.

This helps define a synthetic overview of the major (social, economic, spatial) challenges affecting the City and of the recent initiatives adopted to tackle them, including urban policies and services, innovation infrastructures, social strategies and plans, governance frameworks and the main norms and regulations.

Seventy study cases, identified as meaningful examples of DeI within each surveyed City, were analysed in depth through a face-to-face interview with the actors and compose a preliminary catalogue. This set of DEI initiatives together with the urbanscape descriptions composes the so-called City Snapshot.
